How to Measure Your Dog for Harnesses, Collars & Dog ApparelΒ
Β Whether you're outfitting your dog with a new harness, collar, or some stylish apparel, accurate measurements are key to ensuring the best fit. Avoid the hassle of returns and exchanges by following these simple steps to measure your dog properly for their new gear.
Types of measurements & How to measure

Topline or back
β’ Using a tape measure, have your dog stand and measure along the top of his spine from the base of the neck where it joins the bodyβusually where his collar sitsβto the base of his tail.
β’ For male dogs you may have to adjust the measurement. If the clothing youβre buying doesnβt have a cut out for his groin and belly, you might want to shorten the length a bit to minimize the chances heβll urinate on his new clothes.
β’ If your dog is between sizes, choose the larger size.
Chest girth
β’ This is the measurement around the largest part of your dogβs rib cage, usually just behind the front legs
β’ Measure closely all the way around his chest when heβs standing.
β’ To get the right amount of snugness, use the 'two-finger rule' by slipping two fingers between the measuring tape and your dog.
β’ If your dog is between sizes, choose the larger size.
Neck girth
β’ This is the circumference of your dogβs neck, generally where the collar sits.
β’ Position the tape measure from the dogβs withersβthe ridge between the shoulder bladesβ to the top of his chest.
β’ Then measure all the way around your dogβs neck, holding the tape measure closely.
β’ Use the 'two-finger rule.'
β’ If your dog is between sizes, again, choose the larger size.
Measuring Your Dog for Harnesses

Β
- Β In order to choose the right size of any type of harness, first youβll need hisΒ chest and neck measurement.
- Β Use the 'two-finger rule' for both neck and chest measurements. You should be able to fit two fingers in between your dog and the harness.
- Β Read the product details carefully. Some products are sized by the dogβs measurements; others are sized by the dimensions of the actual product.
Measuring Your Dog for CollarsΒ

Β
- The only measurement youβll need here isΒ neck circumference.
- Measure even if youβre buying an adjustable collar; they still comeΒ in sizes.
- Use the 'two-finger rule.'You should be able to fit two fingers in between your dog and the collar.Β Make sure itΒ fits comfortably around the neck and avoid making it too tight. Use your two fingers and lay them flat underneath the measuring tape to leave some space.
- For Greyhounds and other long-necked breeds, the collar typically sits much higher, at the top of the neck just below the head. But take the measurement lower on his neck, between the withers and the collar level.
- If between sizes, go with the larger size.

Dog Hat- Fitting Guide
Dog Hat- Fitting Guide
πΆ Dog Hats: A Fitting Guide
Dogs come in all shapes and sizes, so it's essential to measure your pupβs head before picking out the perfect hat.
π― 1. Diameter Measurement
What it is: The width of your dogβs head from one side to the other, across the top.
How to measure:
Use a ruler or measuring tape.
Measure straight across the top of the head, just above the ears.
Compare this measurement to the inner diameter of the hat.
π Tip: The hat should rest gently without pressing tightly on the sides of the head.
Β
πΒ 2. Circumference Measurement
What it is: The distance around your dogβs head at the thickest part.
How to measure:
Use a soft, flexible measuring tape.
Wrap it around the head just in front of the ears and under the jaw.
Record the full circle measurement.
π Tip: This helps ensure the hat stays on without being too tight.
